In our brief route by the provinces of Holland (thirteen altogether), we have spoken of five more northern. Next, we will follow the route by the center of the country, to indicate main the attractiveness of Flevoland, Overijssel, Utrecht and Gelderland.

For those who we lived in mainland, without never thinking about living the sea, is difficult to imagine that Holland expands its territory winning occupied space by the waters surround that it. But thus it is, and thus it has been for very many time.

Flevoland is one of his more recent profits: with the five construction of new pólderes, officially formed this young province, dated in 1986. Hardly twenty-three years back, Holland very different Lucia in a map.

This way, agriculture on a large scale was made of new territories to expand, and we obtained some new cities and very interesting attractions to enjoy.

Almere and Lelystad (this one last one, the provincial capital) are the main urban centers. The aquatic park of Looney Tunes is ideal to visit with smallest, and the lovers of the water sports without a doubt will love Flevoland.

Located between Germany and IJsselmeer, this province is characterized by its extensive forests, their old cities and their magnificent castles. Zwolle is its capital, and the main tourist destinies are Deventer and Giethoorn, “Venice of the North?.

This province, whose capital takes its same name, is in the same heart of Holland, closely together of Amsterdam. It is home of the famous University of Utrecht, and of the famous city of Amersfoort.

Between its main attractions, they emphasize the cathedral and the tower of the city, as well as the lake Loosdrechtse Plassen, ideal to practice aquatic sports and to rest in its neighborhoods.

Utrecht also counts on an airport so that if you want to cross this zone, you can plantearos the possibility of arriving at the country by means of flights to Amsterdam or of reserving your flights directly to this city.

The greatest province of Holland limits with Germany the east, and is home of the greater natural reserve of the country: Of Hoge Veluwe. In this charming place, the Kroller-Muller Museum is placed, well-known at international level.

The capital of Gelderland is Arnhem, very visited by the tourism due to the tracks that World War II left in the city.

  1. Only one explanation.

The Netherlands are 12 provinces. Holland, however only consists of 2 provinces: Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland. Not to have this in account takes to teachers to teach to its students who Belgium and Luxembourg belong to the Netherlands, which is a serious error.

Possibly the correct title of this Blog is “On the Netherlands?.

I was born in Rottterdam, my favorite city without a doubt.

    A greeting.

  3. You are right all the, Travor. He is peculiar how the terms Holland and the Netherlands are confused, but the certain thing is that, even erroneously, it comes already using from general form “to travel to Holland? to speak of any part of the Netherlands.

What I do not believe that is confused it is with Belgium and Luxembourg. A thing is the Netherlands and another one the Benelux.

To more than one I taught something to him of geography.
