Museum of Natural History Naturalis, Leiden

I hope that they do not awake…

Naturalis, the Museum of Natural History of the city of Leiden, is not a museum like any other. Distributed in rooms with interactive and extremely interesting activities, the history that counts east place is fascinating for great and small.

The first room is called Theater of the Nature, and also reigns in him a chaotic atmosphere that constitutes a route through the animal and vegetal forms, but of the unicellular organisms and bacteria, and even of minerals and the stones that coexist at present in our planet. There it is possible to observe the genealogical tree that it unites to the Theater with the Primaveral Parade, the following exhibition.

The protagonists of the Primaveral Parade are fossil millenarians, who represent the different passages from the evolution of the Earth life. From Big Bang to the sprouting of the human being, happening through the most spectacular dinosaurios of almost 20 meters of height. Thence, the genealogical tree leads to us two-way traffic in opposite: towards the Earth and the Life.

In the Earth, the bigger globe of the world turns solemnly in center of the room. Its characteristic realistic aspect must to that it was conformed with the help of giant photos from satellite, that allowed to design the terrestrial surface without losing detail. All the orographic movements that give life to our planet show there: mountain volcanos, earthquakes, tidal waves, formation and the erosion that makes disappear, to form again.

If, instead of Earth, we chose Life, we will arrive at a exhibition that counts the great adventure of the survival. The motto is: “to eat or to be eaten?, and around him it turns the thematic one of this sample, that includes giant models of flowers and fruits of a surprising realism, and their special ways of reproduction, which they require of the water, the wind or other animal so that they transport pollen or they disperse the seeds that will give rise to the life.

Many other exhibitions, each more wonderful than the previous one, conform the Museum Naturalis, a visit forced in Leiden.
