Schiffmacher

Henk Schiffmacher, founder of the museum, in the heat of action

The culture of the tattoo finds its place of expression in this peculiar museum of the Dutch capital. Located in the Red, famous District by its endless nights and characterized by the thematic one of the sex that it attracts the tourism and it catches the glances of the entire world, Amsterdam Tattoo Museum seems an almost angelical site in comparison with its near neighbors.

The museum was founded on 1966, by the famous Dutch tatuador Henk Schiffmacher, more known by its nickname Hanky Panky. Inside the building, the main attraction of course is the great collection of images that allows to admire magnificent artistic workings realized by the best tatuadores of the world.

Divided in Color, Black and white, and Tribal, these true pieces made on the body of brave demonstrate that long ago they extended his place of privilege like an adolescent fashion and that they are today the representation of a life style. Although, of course, also there are some who, with a small tattoo, feel like contentments and satisfied.

In the other end, many of the models photographed for the collection of the museum exhibit tattooed complete parts of their body with complex drawings, sometimes painted, and some of them even have little free space to continue decorating.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the museum is the historical route and the anthropological boarding present in its deep analysis of the practices that gave rise to him. Like ancestral practice, their beginnings in Old Egypt can be raked, where the women were put under a painful process with the purpose of to demonstrate to their maturity and bravery.

Through history and in different societies, the tattoo continued its development, and arrived to the present time transformed into symbol from revolt and distinction, in the strictest sense of the word. Mark that it identifies to takes who it, the tattoo in his diverse forms is able to generate from tenderness to rejection, but never indifference.
